LIFE IS A FRAGILE CRAFT

Life is a fragile craft, borne on uncertain seas,
in changing winds from day to day,
blessed by God, built just for you.
And tho’ her deck might tilt and sway,
she’ll bear you through the frothy crest
to peaceful harbors, where you’ll rest.

At birth you launch her from the shore,
take hardboard seats and set the oarlocks well.
You learn the reefs and pirate hearts,
you steer a course through trough and swell.
The best of men have fallen, in the tempest tossed,
Driven toward uncertainty, by what they’ve gained and what they’ve lost.

You read the currents and the stars,
a watchful eye, a lion’s heart,
from dawn to dusk and through the night
you kept your guard you did your part.
Stilled the waiting, unseen, silent thunder,
hidden there to rip your fragile craft asunder.

Thus guided by your steady hand
these many years have passed.
You claim your treasures where you can,
in every sea, warm tradewinds blow at last.
Your spirit held, your eyes are clear and true,
they know, “the ship is nothing without you”.

So fill your sails, my love, ‘tis time
to cast those churning crests aside.
Deep harbors wait to comfort you
with sunsets, friends, and good times long denied.
The warm sun shines at last, so laugh and dance and love.
No longer Earthbound, raise your arms, fly free, my gentle Dove.
