| This section provides information on acquisition, tracking and pointing systems. General concepts are described and many of the fundamental formulas and calculational methods for designing such systems are given. The tutorial is contained in four briefings that cover each of the primary categories of knowledge required for this kind of work. |
ATP Section 1) Acquisition, Tracking and Pointing Concepts
ATP Section 2) Control Systems, Gimbals and Stabilization
ATP Section 3) Radiometry, Targets, Backgrounds and Sensors
ATP Section 4) Image Processing, Tracking Algorithms and Adaptive Optics

In this website, I make the distinction between LADAR (Laser Radar) and LIDAR (LIght Detection And Ranging) as being one of target type. I use the term LADAR for systems in which the primary targets are hard bodies: vehicles, structures, ground, foliage, etc. I use LIDAR for systems in which the primary targets are gaseous, clouds, aerosols and particulates. This distinction is not universally accepted, but since the two types of systems are quite different in their configuration and signal processing, I find it convenient. |
