The Restoration of 1965 Austin Healey BJ-8 VIN# (TBD)

This is the beginning of the restoration page for my old 1965 Healey. I had it for about 8 years and it was a total ground up restoration. I still need to find the early pictures, but these are ones I found for the car after it was pretty well complete. These were the Triple Webber carbs I put on.

The intake manifolds were custom made. They'rs weldments of several pieces of T6061 Aluminum, shaped from billet stock.

I installed this sheet of polished stainless under the hood, basically to reflect the engine compartment and add "pizzaz"! I don't know if it had any significant effect on performance.

You can see the polished Aluminum valve cover. The vacuum balance tube connected all the carb intakes to reduce the vacuum pulsing during the firing cycle. Later this was replaced with a welded balance tube with a larger bore that was welded between the individual intakes.

I just polished the top of the radiator. It was originally painted black, but I liked the bronze so just painted it with a clear verathane.

I had a foam gasket laid into the hood groove, and another edge seal that preseed on to the upturned lip around the groove.

I had a nifty little brass plate made, similar to the original, that had the valve clearance values and the car name.

Rock guards over the Lucas headlamps and a badge bar with fog lamps made nice accessories.

I didn't tear into the tranny. Dick reported no problems with it, so I just cleaned it up, bolted it together with the engine and put it in.
